Find out if your Cisco firewall is likely to fail

We like Cisco network equipment, but like any hardware vendor, they do have the occasional problem. In October, Cisco released this Field Notice:

https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/field-notices/642/fn64228.html

The affected units are not eligible for free replacement, unless the unit has an active SmartNet contract.

To find out if your Cisco ASA firewall is affected, see if the VID ends in:

     ASA5506: “V03” or earlier

     ASA5506H: “V03” or earlier

     ASA5506W: “V05” or earlier

     ASA5508: “V04” or earlier

     ASA5516: “V04” or earlier

You can check this by looking at the bottom of the unit.

We’ve seen some failures of this type already, so if you have a possibly affected device, it should be replaced ASAP to avoid disruption of your business network and VPN.

Gorge Tech Services can assist you with identifying and, if necessary, replacing your firewall.
